livox avia driver requires a PTP master to publish timestamps (else starts epoch at 0ns)

tested

sudo ptp4l -i enP8p1s0 -S -m -l 6

then restarted driver —> timestamps from sensor were good (nice!)

now need to make persistent —> kill current ptp4l

sudo tee /etc/systemd/system/livox-ptp-master.service >/dev/null <<'EOF'
[Unit]
Description=Software PTP source for Livox AVIA
Wants=network-online.target
After=network-online.target
StartLimitIntervalSec=0

[Service]
Type=simple
ExecStart=/usr/sbin/ptp4l -i enP8p1s0 -S -m -q -l 6 --free_running 1
Restart=on-failure
RestartSec=10

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target
EOF

then

sudo systemctl enable livox-ptp-master.service

chat says that if you want to undo this

sudo systemctl disable --now livox-ptp-master.service
sudo rm -f /etc/systemd/system/livox-ptp-master.service
sudo systemctl daemon-reload
sudo systemctl reset-failed
