Stabilization

• use off-the-shelf brushless gimbal controllers for gravity-referenced stabilization https://www.basecamelectronics.com/
  • analogous to https://www.amazon.com/Camera-Brushless-Quadcopter-Component-Accessory/dp/B07MXHXFPM —> we have in lab and I have tried out
  • lets a computer set desired “pointing angle” and handles stabilization onboard
• challenges
  • need to keep controller + sensors dry (do not need to keep motors dry)
  • providing power (? not sure if a big deal)

Mounting

• consider a load of <1kg (maybe design for up to 1.5kg?)
• probably should be taller than fixed mid360, but minimize height to keep CG low
• can mount to aft hull or aft crossbar - just don’t mount on the hatch
• might go for custom 3-axis mount —> can be exceptionally mechanically simple
• require dynamic balance
