Notes for Webb and Will
- We need accurate wind measurements in order to optimize the sail control
- Right now we are using a very rudimentary wind vane, but it is not the most responsive and doesn’t measure wind speed
- Ultrasonic anemometers can determine direction and speed with no moving parts
- Commercial versions of manual wind vanes/anemometers exist but are bulky and expensive
- Someone had started on this project long before I was here and has a box of parts that might be useful, at least the transducers

Design Requirements
- Wind angle measurement precision of +-15 degrees
- Wind speed measurement precision: <10m/s, ±1m/s; ≥10m/s, ±10%
- Responds quickly to changes in wind direction
- Versatile bolt pattern for mounting to wingsail counterbalance
Constraints
- As lightweight as possible
- Doesn’t obstruct airflow over wingsail
